What are pasture fence posts?

Electric fence posts are the basic structure of every electric fence. With these poles you stake out your pasture and thus determine the area where your animals can stay.

A basic distinction is made between corner posts and line posts.

Corner posts form the respective end points of your electric fence and are mainly responsible for ensuring that the conductor material is sufficiently tensioned. Corner posts must therefore be particularly stable.

Line posts are used to connect the corner posts to each other. Insulators must be fitted to all line posts to prevent unwanted contact between the post and the conductor material used.

This contact would cause a voltage drop and your electric fence would no longer be safe to use.

How to find the right posts for your electric fence

Know the nature of your ground: depending on whether your ground is soft, dry or stony, you should use different fence posts. For soft ground, recycling posts or T Post posts provide a stable support. For dry or stony ground, on the other hand, we recommend angle steel posts.

Decide whether you need a fixed fence or a mobile fence: if your fence is to remain standing all year round, recycled posts, T Post posts or angle steel posts are particularly suitable. However, if you use your fence as a mobile fence and dismantle it completely during the winter months, we recommend using plastic or fibreglass posts for your pasture fence

Specify which animals are to be fenced: Depending on the type of animal, you will need fence posts of different heights. For smaller animals that cannot jump, a fence height of less than one meter will probably be sufficient. For horses, however, you will probably need posts 1.3 metres or more high.

This accessory is useful for electric fence posts

Electric Fence Conductor Material: To allow current to flow through your electric fence, conductor material (tapes, wires, ropes or strands) must be stretched between the fence posts.

Fence Insulator: Fence Insulators prevent voltage drops that can be caused by contact between the conductor material and the fence post.

Fence Grounding: For your electric fence to operate safely, it must be grounded with the correct equipment. You can find the right earthing rods, earthing cables and other accessories here.

Fence Connectors: Fence Connectors are used to connect your wire material along the entire length of your electric fence.

Electric fence reel: With a reel you can roll up and practically stow away the conductor material when you use your electric fence as a mobile unit or when you dismantle it over the winter months.

Electric fence energiser: A electric fence energiser is responsible for the power supply of your electric fence. If you have access to a power outlet, we advise you to use a 230V mains energiser with a mains connection. If you do not have access to a socket, a battery-powered electric fence energiser with 12V is the right choice.
