A dressing on the hoof has to hold, even when the animal walks through muck and wet. Tapes and bandages

The core of the range is made up of self-adhesive hoof bandages such as ClawTape, silver tape, VetTape, Kromberg and certoplast type Vorwerk. They stick only to themselves, not to skin or hair, and so come off again cleanly. The VetLastic hoof bandage rounds things off when you need a little more tension. For a really firm hold there is the TechnoCast support dressing, which cures after a short time and stabilises the hoof.

Padding, protecting and removing

Padding belongs under the tape so that nothing rubs. For that you have the CottoPad hoof and padding bandage, CottoMull dressing wadding and VisCotto rolled wadding, plus the Stretchino short stretch bandage. If an animal needs longer protection, a canvas treatment boot keeps the treated hoof dry. To take the dressing off again you reach for the 80 cm bandage knife, so you do not have to bend down.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a hoof bandage stay on?
As a rule two to four days. It should not sit longer than that, because moisture collects underneath and pressure points can form. Check daily that the dressing is still in place and the animal is standing level.

Why self-adhesive tape?
It sticks only to itself and comes off without residue. That is kinder to skin and horn and saves you using clips. Wrap it firmly but never tight enough to constrict, and always start at the toe.

When is a treatment boot worth it?
When the hoof needs protecting over several days and the animal carries on walking in the shed. The canvas boot holds the dressing in place and screens it from wet and dirt. Check it daily and replace it once the dressing underneath is soaked.
