Poultry Waterer: Fresh Water for Your Animals

Provide your animals with clean drinking water at all times. Discover robust gravity waterers, automatic systems, and heaters.

Poultry Waterer – Vital for Healthy Animals

Nothing works in poultry farming without sufficient and clean water. Water regulates the animals' body temperature, supports the digestion of dry feed, and is the most important building block for high and constant laying performance. A species-appropriate poultry waterer ensures that chickens, quails, and ducks have easy access to fresh drinking water around the clock without immediately contaminating it with bedding or droppings.

Gravity Waterers, Buckets, and Automatic Systems

For small numbers of animals, classic plastic gravity waterers or double-cylinder waterers are ideal. They are easy to clean and can be placed in the coop or run using the carrying handle. Those who keep many animals and want to save themselves the trouble of carrying water every day are best advised to use automatic chicken waterers with float valves or closed nipple drinkers that are connected directly to the water pipe.

Hygiene at the Watering Hole

The drinking trough should be designed in such a way that the animals can only stick their beaks into it. This prevents birds from bathing or scratching in the water. To avoid pathogens such as algae or bacteria, conventional waterers must be cleaned regularly with a brush and hot water. UV-resistant plastic or stainless steel make these hygiene measures enormously easier.

FAQ - Chicken Waterers

How much water does a chicken need a day?

A fully grown chicken drinks an average of about 200 to 300 ml of water per day. On very hot summer days, however, this requirement can easily double. Make sure that the waterer offers enough volume for all your animals.

Where is the best place to put the waterer?

In summer, always place the poultry waterer in a shady spot so that the water does not heat up too much and no algae form. In the coop, the waterer should be positioned slightly elevated (e.g., on a stone or hung up). At chest height of the animals, this prevents dirt from flying into the water when they scratch.

How do I keep the water frost-free in winter?

As soon as temperatures drop below zero, the water in normal plastic waterers freezes quickly. During this time, use special heated chicken waterers or place your gravity waterer on an electric heater base (heating plate) to ensure the water supply.

You save yourself the annoying daily refilling and your animals enjoy fresh water around the clock.

Heated Chicken Waterer – Safe Protection Against Frost

In winter, freezing drinking water quickly becomes a problem. A heated waterer or a special heater base keeps the water reliably liquid even in severe sub-zero temperatures. Thanks to integrated thermostats, these systems also operate extremely safely and save energy.
