Egg Storage and Transport: Safely Packaged

Get your fresh eggs safely to their destination. Discover sturdy egg cartons and trays for optimal and hygienic storage.

Egg Storage – Perfect Protection for Your Harvest

Collecting eggs daily is the absolute highlight of keeping poultry. But fresh eggs are fragile and need the right packaging to arrive undamaged in the kitchen, farm shop, or with friends. With professional egg storage and the right egg transport accessories, you reliably protect your eggs from breakage, temperature fluctuations, and vibrations.

Egg Cartons and Egg Trays

For private passing on or sale, classic egg cartons made of sturdy cardboard (for 6 or 10 eggs) are the absolute standard. They are easy to stack and offer the egg a secure hold. If you collect a large number of eggs every day, so-called egg trays (usually for 30 eggs) are the best choice. These layers can easily be stacked on top of each other in large crates, saving an extreme amount of space in the pantry.

Plastic or Cardboard?

While cardboard boxes are environmentally friendly and regulate moisture well, plastic egg boxes score highly with their reusability and hygiene. Plastic boxes can be washed hot, which is particularly important if you want to maintain the highest hygienic standards or store the boxes in a damp refrigerator.

FAQ - Egg Storage

What is the best way to store fresh eggs?

Eggs should always be stored with the pointed end facing down. This keeps the air cell, which is located at the blunt end of the egg, at the top. This prevents the air cell from rising and detaching the sensitive egg membrane. In addition, eggs should not be exposed to strong temperature fluctuations.

Do fresh eggs have to go straight into the fridge?

No. Fresh, unwashed eggs have a natural protective layer (the cuticle) that prevents bacteria from entering. In the first 18 days after laying, they can easily be stored at room temperature (ideally dark and cool). After that, they should be put in the fridge. Important: Once cooled, eggs must remain cooled!

Can I reuse cardboard egg cartons?

For private use, this is usually harmless, provided the carton is completely clean and dry. However, if a carton is contaminated with egg yolk or dirt, it must be recycled immediately, otherwise bacteria or even mites from the coop could multiply in it.
