Poultry Plucking Machine – Time-Saving During Slaughter
Plucking poultry by hand is extremely time-consuming and exhausting. An electric plucking machine (often designed as a drum plucker) takes this tedious work off your hands and delivers a completely cleanly plucked animal within a few seconds. Whether chickens, turkeys, quails, or ducks – there is perfectly matched equipment for every animal size that protects the birds' skin and saves you valuable time.
How the Drum Plucker Works
The functionality is simple but highly effective. After the mandatory scalding in a hot water bath, the poultry is placed in the drum of the machine. A fast-rotating base plate and hundreds of flexible rubber plucking fingers rub the feathers gently but extremely thoroughly off the skin. An integrated water connection rinses the detached feathers directly out of the machine via a discharge chute while it is running.
Plucking Fingers for Gentle Feather Removal
The quality of the plucking fingers is the heart of the machine. They are made of soft natural rubber so as not to tear or injure the sensitive skin of the animals during the plucking process. For very small and fine birds such as quails, there are special machines with smaller, softer fingers and narrower drum walls so that the animals do not slip through.
FAQ - Plucking Machines
Does the poultry have to be scalded before plucking?
Yes, scalding (immersing in a hot water bath at around 60 to 65 degrees Celsius) is absolutely necessary. This opens the pores of the skin, and the feathers can be rubbed off easily by the rubber fingers without injuring the skin.
How long does the plucking process take?
The machines are incredibly fast. A good plucking machine usually only needs between 15 and 30 seconds for one or two normal-sized chickens until all feathers are completely removed.
How do I clean the machine after slaughtering?
Thanks to the integrated water connection, the drum is mostly rinsed clean during plucking. After use, it is usually sufficient to hose down the drum and the plucking fingers thoroughly with a water hose.
