Bucket: From the Stable Bucket to the Wash Trough
A bucket is nothing you think about for long, until the handle tears out under a full load or the base cracks in winter. That is why there is deliberately no DIY store range here, but versions built for stable use: thick walled stable and builders' buckets with a scale, galvanised water buckets and big wash troughs with drain and strainer, plus the frames and brackets that give all of it a place.
Which size for what
The 12 litre class is the all rounder for drinking water, concentrate and cleaning, and with a matching lid the feed stays dry overnight as well. The 20 litre jumbo with a scale pays off as soon as you have to measure quantities, for instance when mixing milk replacer. Galvanised water buckets are heavier, but they take frost and hot water without going brittle. For shows and transport there are collapsible buckets that fold down to almost nothing. And the wash troughs in 65 and 100 litres made of polyethylene belong wherever milking clusters, churns or feeding buckets get cleaned.
Holders save your temper
The difference between order and chaos is usually a holder. Bucket holders to screw on or hook in come galvanised for the common 12 litre buckets, and with a retaining catch the bucket stays where it is even when an animal knocks into it. For the wash troughs there are knock down table frames and wall brackets in galvanised steel tube, so the trough stands at working height and the drain stays clear underneath.

Plastic or galvanised?
Plastic is lighter and quieter, galvanised copes better with hot water and frost. For watering in a winter stable, galvanised is often the longer lasting choice.
Do the holders fit every bucket?
The galvanised round holders with a 31 cm diameter fit the common 12 litre buckets. For flat back buckets you need the matching flat holder.
What is the scale on the bucket for?
For measuring without a second container, for example with milk replacer or dosing. It saves time when mixing and keeps the amount traceable.
