Water Bowl: Fresh Water for Your Cat, Indoors and Outdoors

A water bowl of her own in a quiet spot invites your cat to drink. For outdoor cats there's a heated water bowl that won't freeze over in winter.

Water Bowl: Simple, Clean and Always Full

Not every cat needs a fountain. Often a good water bowl is enough, as long as it's in the right place and refilled with fresh water every day. Many cats drink more readily when their water isn't placed right next to their food. Here you'll find bowls made of stainless steel and ceramic, a non-slip double bowl and a heated water bowl for outdoor cats that need water outside in winter too.

Stainless steel or ceramic?

A stainless steel bowl is practically indestructible and quick to wash. It doesn't take on any taste, so the water stays neutral. A ceramic bowl is heavier and therefore stands especially firmly, and it also keeps the water cool for a little longer. The Kerbl DUO stainless steel double bowl has a non-slip rim and works well if you want to offer water and dry food in one place. When it comes to size, go a little wider so the whiskers don't touch the rim.

Heated water bowl for winter

Outdoor cats also like to drink while they're out and about or on the patio. In frosty weather, an ordinary bowl outside quickly turns into a block of ice. The heated water bowl with 1.25 litres keeps the water frost-free, so your cat can find drinkable water even on cold days. It's suitable for covered spots, balconies, garages or the area in front of the cat flap.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my cat prefer drinking from puddles or flower vases?
Many cats like water that doesn't taste of washing-up liquid or the bowl, and they look for interesting places to drink. Rinse the water bowl with clear water only and place it away from the food. Several water stations around your home increase the chance she'll find her favourite spot.

Can I give my cat milk instead of water?
Adult cats usually don't digest the lactose in cow's milk well and can easily get diarrhoea from it. Water is the right drink. Special cat milk is at most a small treat, but no substitute.

How often should I change the water in the bowl?
At least once a day, and more often in summer. Standing water collects dust and hair and quickly goes stale. Rinsing the bowl out once a day also stops a film forming on the bottom.

Water Bowls for Indoors and Outdoors

Your cat should have access to fresh water at all times. A simple water bowl does this job reliably, as long as it stands securely and is refilled regularly. Stainless steel is hygienic and lasts a cat's lifetime, while ceramic is heavy and stays firmly in place. A non-slip double bowl is handy if water and dry food are to sit side by side. Many cats, however, prefer to drink when their water is a little way from their food, and they appreciate two or three water stations around the home. For outdoor cats there's a heated water bowl that keeps the water frost-free in winter. That way your cat can find something to drink outside your front door even when temperatures drop below zero. Place it in a covered, sheltered spot close to a power socket.
