With a PetSafe dog flap, your dog can head out into the garden and come back inside on its own. You'll find matching replacement flaps right here too.

Dog Flap: In and Out on Its Own

Your dog wants to go into the garden often during the day, and you don't want to keep opening the door? With a dog flap in a door or wall, it decides for itself when to go in and out. Here you'll find models from PetSafe Staywell in plastic and aluminium, the 2-way Dog Mate flaps, flaps for small dogs and plenty of matching replacement flaps for when the old one is worn.

Choosing the Right Size

Dog flaps are available for dogs up to around 7, 18 or 45 kg. What really matters, though, is not just the weight but your dog's shoulder width and height. Measure the widest point and the height from belly to withers, and choose a flap your dog can pass through comfortably without ducking. Plan the fitting height so that the bottom edge sits roughly at the level of its belly. For puppies, go by their expected adult size.

Weatherproof, Tough and Lockable

A triple flap system seals particularly well and keeps cold air and draughts out in winter. Frames made of aluminium are very sturdy and well suited to strong dogs, while plastic models are light and easy to fit. With a 2-way or 4-way lock, you decide whether your dog can only go out, only come in, go both ways or not use the flap at all. After a few years the flap may turn cloudy or brittle, and then you simply swap in a replacement flap.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get my dog used to the dog flap?
At first, keep the flap open or tape it up so your dog can simply walk through. Lure it with treats while a second person waits on the other side. Once that works, let the flap close so your dog learns to push it open with its nose.

Can I fit a dog flap into a glass door?
Normal glass or double glazing cannot simply be cut afterwards. For that you need a glazier who makes a new pane with a suitable cut-out. Fitting is easier in wooden or uPVC doors or in a wall.

Will other animals get into the house too?
With large flaps that can happen, for example with cats from the neighbourhood. You can use the lock to close the flap at night or while you are away. That way you decide when the passage is open.
