Feeding Trough Chicks: Clean Feed for Healthy Rearing

Make eating easier for your offspring. Discover feeding troughs made of plastic and metal, specially designed for small beaks.

Feeding Trough for Chicks – The Optimal Start in Life

Successful rearing begins with the right nutrition. But not only the feed itself, the way it is presented is also crucial in the first weeks of life. A special feeding trough for chicks is indispensable to make eating as easy and hygienic as possible for your animals. Conventional bowls pose the risk of the small birds standing directly in the food, mixing it with bedding, or contaminating it with droppings. A good chick trough effectively prevents this and thus protects your animals from pathogens.

Thoughtful Design for Small Beaks

Chick troughs are designed so that the edge is particularly low. This allows even the smallest quail or chicken chicks to easily reach the feed without having to stretch. However, the absolute core of these troughs is the integrated feeding grid (often hinged). It divides the trough into small sections. This way, the chicks can only put their heads through and eat. Wildly scratching in the food or even lying in it is thus impossible.

Durable Materials for the Brooder

In our assortment, you will find chick troughs made of robust plastic and durable metal. Plastic troughs score with their low weight and are often available in bright colors (e.g., pink or red), which visually attracts the chicks and animates them to eat. Metal troughs (usually made of galvanized sheet metal) are particularly stable and do not tip over even if the chicks become a little more boisterous while eating. Both variants have smooth surfaces and can be cleaned in no time under running water.

FAQ - Chick Feeding Troughs

How big must the chick trough be?

That depends on the number of your chicks. It is important that all animals can eat at the same time if possible to avoid stress and ranking fights. We offer troughs in different lengths, from compact 20 cm to generous 50 cm length. Roughly calculate about 3 to 4 cm of space at the trough per chick.

Which feed do I put in the trough?

The trough is perfectly suited for fine chick starter feed (usually as mash or very fine crumbs). The feeding grid ensures that the chicks can pick up the fine food well without throwing it out of the trough while eating.

When can I switch to a normal trough?

As soon as your chicks have grown into pullets (from about the 6th to 8th week of life) and are switched to larger feed, you can also switch to a regular poultry trough. The chick trough is then usually too shallow and the feeding grid too narrow for the heads of the growing birds.

Feeding Trough Chicks - Clean Eating from the Start

A special feeding trough for chicks is designed so that the birds can easily reach the food without dirtying it. Integrated feeding grids or narrow openings prevent the chicks from sitting in the food and scratching in it. This reduces food loss and keeps the feeding area hygienically clean. Whether models made of light plastic or stable, galvanized metal - choose the right size for your offspring and ensure a healthy start in life.
