Horse Bandages: Stylish Protection for Daily Training

Bandages offer gentle protection and support for your horse's legs. Discover high-quality wraps in many colors for your daily training.

Horse Bandages: Elegant Protection for Training

The horse's legs do heavy work during daily training. Bandages (or polo wraps) offer good protection against light knocks and brushing, for example, when the horse touches itself with its hooves. They are particularly popular in dressage, as they visually highlight the horse's movements and are available in countless colors to match the saddle pad.

Correct Application is Crucial

Bandaging requires some practice. The bandage must never be wrapped too tightly, otherwise there is a risk of cutting off the lymph flow and blood circulation in the horse's leg. Too loose a fit, on the other hand, can cause the bandage to slip during training and become a tripping hazard. To avoid pressure peaks, soft bandage pads should always be used under fleece or elastic bandages.

Material Selection: Fleece or Elastic?

Fleece bandages (often called polo wraps) are particularly soft, slightly stretchy, and keep tendons and ligaments pleasantly warm on cool days. They are also more forgiving of small wrapping mistakes than elastic bandages. The latter offer slightly more compact support due to their stretch content but require a lot of tact when applying so as not to constrict the leg.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the horse go to the pasture with bandages?
No, bandages have no place in the pasture. They can soak up moisture, become heavy, and slip. If a bandage unrolls, there is an acute risk of injury and tripping while playing.

What is the best way to wash horse bandages?
As a rule, bandages can easily be washed in the washing machine at 30 °C (86 °F). Important: Always close the Velcro fasteners beforehand and ideally use a laundry bag so that the long strips of fabric do not get tangled in the drum.

Do bandages offer a real supportive function?
The supportive effect of bandages on tendons and ligaments is often overestimated. Their main purpose is to protect against external impacts (knocks) and to keep the muscles and tendons warm during the warm-up phase.

They are a real eye-catcher not only in the dressage arena: bandages protect your horse's sensitive tendons and ligaments from minor brushing injuries. At the same time, they gently warm the leg, which is particularly beneficial during the warm-up phase on cool days.
