In the barn, light decides whether a developing lameness is spotted today or three days later. At the same time, few rooms are as hard on technology: ammonia, dust and moisture finish off ordinary fittings within a few months. That is why you will only find versions here that are built for these conditions, namely ammonia resistant, dust tight and jet water protected to IP65.

High Bays for Large Areas

For loose housing, sheds and storage areas, LED high bays from 75 to 240 watts are the first choice. From the ceiling they light a large area evenly, without throwing hard shadows in which you can make nothing out. Dimmable models can be matched to the time of day and the job in hand, which saves power and disturbs the animals less. Matching mounting brackets for ceiling and wall fitting are here too, also as spares for older units, so a single failed floodlight does not mean replacing the whole run.

Tubes, Damp Proof Fittings and Outdoor Light

Above passageways, feed tables and in low barns, damp proof fittings and LED tubes are the better answer, because they spread the light in a line. The FarmTUBE range comes in 60, 120 and 150 centimetres, along with tubes of 18 and 22 watts. Outside, LED floodlights from 10 to 100 watts take care of the yard, with a motion detector if you want light only when somebody comes near the yard or the machine shed.

How many high bays do I need?
As a rough rule, one 100 watt high bay at a height of four metres covers around 25 to 30 square metres well. Higher ceilings call for more output.

Why ammonia resistant?
Ammonia attacks plastics and seals. Standard fittings go cloudy or fail after a single season in the barn, while ammonia resistant housings last for years.

Which colour temperature makes sense?
4000 kelvin is the usual compromise: bright enough for stock checks without feeling unpleasantly cold. For the parlour or workshop, 5000 kelvin also works.
