Liners & Under Rugs for Horses: Flexible Layering System for Winter

Adjust your horse's cold protection flexibly to the weather. Discover practical liners to combine with your turnout rug.

Liners & Under Rugs: Flexible Warmth for Cold Days

Outside temperatures can fluctuate significantly during autumn and winter. A well-designed liner system offers the ability to respond quickly to these changes. Instead of purchasing a separate, insulated turnout rug for every temperature range, a waterproof outer rug (usually a 0g or 50g rain sheet) is combined with a suitable liner as needed.

The Layering Principle in Practice

Liners are available in various fill weights, often ranging from 100g to 300g. When temperatures drop, the liner is simply placed under the turnout rug. It is attached using sturdy Velcro fastenings and clips at the designated loops on the outer rug. This creates a unified layer that does not slip when the horse moves in the paddock or rolls.

Easy to Care For and Gentle on the Coat

A major advantage of liners is their straightforward cleaning process. Since they do not have a delicate waterproof membrane, they can easily be washed in a standard washing machine and dry quickly. The outer material of liners is usually very smooth, allowing the turnout rug above to glide over it during movement. This reduces friction and prevents hair breakage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I combine liners from different manufacturers?
This is often difficult, as the positions of the Velcro fastenings and attachment loops vary from brand to brand. It is advisable to stay within the same brand for a liner system to ensure a secure fit without slipping.

Does a liner have cross surcingles?
Most classic liners do not have their own belly surcingles, as they are firmly attached to the outer rug, whose straps hold the entire system on the horse. Some liners only feature a simple front closure.

Can the liner also be used as a stable rug?
Some liners can be worn alone in the stable on dry days, provided they have their own closures. However, they often lack belly straps, making them more prone to slipping without the outer rug.

The Practical Liner System for Every Temperature

A functioning layering system saves space in the tack room and is gentle on the budget. With a liner, you can expand the warming function of your existing rain or turnout rug in just a few steps. The rugs can be securely connected to each other using Velcro and clip fasteners, ensuring they lie reliably on the horse's body even during movement.

In our range, you will find liners in various weights to prepare your horse for sudden drops in temperature. The lightweight materials are easy to wash, and their smooth fabric ensures that the coat is protected and the outer rug can glide over it unhindered.
