Rubber Mats for Horses: One Material for the Whole Stable
A rubber mat for horses is heavy, elastic and non-slip. It stays in place without glue, absorbs impact and copes with horseshoes as well as wheelbarrows and yard loaders. As rubber stable flooring, it works in almost every area: in the stable, the aisle, the wash bay, on the stable wall or as a soft lying mat. All mats in this selection are made from rubber, many of them from vulcanised Belmondo rubber.
Rubber Mats by Area
In the stable, Belmondo Basic, Classic or the cushioned Trend provide lying comfort and firm footing. The 5 cm RELAX horse bed offers a particularly soft lying mat. Walkway and Walk Pro are designed as rubber mats for the aisle, lying flat and offering good grip. In the wash bay, the ring hole rubber mat with drainage channels water away, though it is not meant as a stable floor. The Rodeo wall mat protects against kick injuries on the stable wall, and the Flix perforated mat keeps field gateways firm underfoot.
Rubber or PVC?
Rubber is heavier than PVC and therefore stays put without fixing, even when a horse paws the ground. It is highly abrasion-resistant, copes with horseshoes and can be driven over with a yard loader. PVC mats are easier to carry and insulate well against cold. For heavily used areas such as the stable and aisle, rubber is usually the longer-lasting choice. With the Area of use filter you only see the mats for the place you want to kit out.
Frequently asked questions
Do new rubber mats smell in the stable?
New rubber mats can smell a little of rubber at first. In a well-ventilated stable this usually fades after a few weeks. Ideally, store the mats outdoors for a few days before laying them.
Can I fix rubber mats to the stable wall?
Yes, there are dedicated wall mats that are screwed to timber or concrete walls. They protect your horse from injury when kicking or rolling and protect the wall from damage. The ring hole rubber mat also works as kick protection on the wall.
How do I cut rubber mats to size?
Use a sharp utility knife with a straight edge as a guide. Cut in several passes and wet the blade with a little water or washing-up liquid so it glides more easily. This lets you fit the mats neatly around corners, posts and drains.
Rubber Mats for Stable, Aisle and Wall
Rubber has proven itself in horse stables because it is heavy, grippy and extremely hard-wearing. A rubber mat stays where you put it and cushions every hoof step. In the stable it protects joints and keeps out cold from the ground, and in the aisle it prevents slipping on smooth concrete. In the wash bay, drainage holes stop puddles from forming, and on the stable wall a wall mat absorbs kicks. Your horse lies especially soft on a thick lying mat that works like a bed beneath the bedding. Because rubber hardly absorbs any moisture, the mats are easy to hose down and dry quickly. This makes the stable more hygienic and saves you time when mucking out every day. So you will find the right thickness and surface for every spot in your stable.
