If the rack hangs too high, hay dust falls into the horse's eyes and nostrils. If it hangs too low, there is a risk that the horse will step into it.
How much hay fits in a wall hay rack?
The capacity depends on the respective model. A standard wall hay rack usually holds enough loose hay for a generous night ration (approx. 8 to 12 kg). There are also extra-large models for horses with a very high roughage requirement.
How large should the grid spacing be?
The distance between the bars is usually around 5 to 8 centimeters. This distance is ideal so that the horse can pluck out the hay easily but cannot get its entire head or a hoof caught in the grid.
