Wall Trough: the fixed solution in box and stable

A permanently mounted trough always stays in the same place. The animal knows where it can eat, and you know where to bring the feed. A wall trough cannot be pushed aside or knocked over and holds even when a horse leans on it while eating. Here you will find models made of plastic, galvanised steel, aluminium and stainless steel, round, half-round, rectangular or as a corner version.

There are two ways to mount it: straight on the wall or in the corner. Corner models use the dead angle of the box that nobody needs anyway and stay out of the horse's way. On a straight wall you have more freedom with the height and can set the trough exactly where the animal reaches it comfortably. Make sure the top edge does not sit too high: cattle and horses eat more calmly when they can lower their heads a little. For calves and sheep small troughs with 6 to 9 litres are enough, for a grown horse 15 to 31 litres is usual. A protective edge keeps the horse from injuries and the trough from being chewed.

Material, shape and cleaning

Plastic is light, cheap and perfectly sufficient for most boxes. Galvanised steel takes more punishment and is the classic choice in the loose house. Aluminium and stainless steel cost more but last long, stay hygienic and are easy to keep clean, which is an argument with moist feed. The shape depends on the space: round troughs are wiped out quickly, rectangular and triangular ones make better use of wall and corner. Models with a drain plug make washing out easier, because water and leftovers can run straight off.
