Dog Clippers: Professional Clipping at Home
Poodle, doodle, terrier or spaniel: many dogs need a regular haircut. With your own dog clippers, you can skip some trips to the groomer and tidy up paws, face and hygiene area yourself in between. Here you'll find clippers from Wahl/Moser, Aesculap, Heiniger, Clipster and Kerbl, along with clipper heads, blades, attachment combs and everything for looking after them.
Cordless or Corded, Trimmer or Full Body Clip?
Cordless clippers give you complete freedom of movement and are quieter, which suits nervous dogs. A corded clipper runs without a break and shows its strength on large dogs and dense coats. For paws, the eye area and ears, a small trimmer is ideal, while a full body clip calls for a powerful clipper with an interchangeable blade. With attachment combs you decide the length and leave the coat at an even length.
Not Every Dog Should Be Clipped
Dogs with a double coat such as Huskies, German Shepherds or Golden Retrievers are generally not clipped. Their undercoat protects them from heat and cold, and after clipping the coat often grows back unevenly. For these breeds it's better to remove the undercoat with a brush and rake. Clipping is mainly worthwhile for dogs with constantly growing coats such as Poodles or Bichons, and for matted areas.
Frequently asked questions
Can I clip my dog with hair clippers made for people?
We advise against it. Human hair is much finer than dog hair, so these clippers lack power, heat up quickly and pull at the hair. Dog clippers are designed for dense coats.
How do I get my dog used to the clippers?
Let it sniff the switched off clippers first, then switch them on a few metres away. Reward calm behaviour and at first only touch the clippers briefly to less sensitive areas such as the back. With lots of small steps your dog will lose its fear.
Does the coat need to be washed before clipping?
Yes, if possible. Dirt and sand in the coat quickly blunt the blades and the clippers cut less smoothly. Bath your dog beforehand, let the coat dry completely and brush it through well.
Everything for Clipping Your Dog
A Cordless Clipper gives you complete freedom of movement and runs pleasantly quietly, ideal for trimming and tidying up in between. A Corded Clipper works without a break and handles large dogs with dense coats too. To suit your machine, choose the clipper head for the cutting length you want, or a new blade once the old one has gone blunt. Accessories include attachment combs, spare batteries, oil and cooling spray to keep your clippers working reliably for a long time. Remember to oil the blades regularly and give the machine a short cooling break with cooling spray during longer sessions, so it stays quiet and comfortable for your dog.
