Polytape: Extra Wide Conductor Material for Maximum Visibility

Ideal for horses, cattle, and wildlife deterrence. Find the right polytape in various widths for a secure and highly visible fence.

Polytape – The Highly Visible Fence for Livestock

Due to its flat, wide shape, polytape is the most visually striking conductor material. It consists of sturdy plastic mesh and integrated, electrically conductive wires. Because animals perceive it so well as a barrier, it is the standard material for horse paddocks, but it is also excellent for cattle or wildlife protection.

The most important properties of an electric fence polytape:

  • Extreme visibility: Tapes are usually available in widths of 10 mm, 20 mm, or 40 mm. The wider the tape, the better the animals recognize the fence.
  • Injury protection: If a panicked animal runs into the fence, a tape is much more likely to break than a solid rope or a steel wire. This prevents deep cut injuries.
  • Good conductivity: Woven conductors made of stainless steel or copper ensure that the current flows safely along the entire fence.

Caution in Windy Locations

The greatest advantage of the tape on open areas is also its weakness: Due to its wide surface, it offers the wind a lot of surface to attack. In very stormy pastures, the tape can start to flutter and then rub through on the insulators. To prevent this, you must reduce the distance between the posts (usually to about 3 meters) and always keep the tape well tensioned.

FAQs about Polytape

How do I repair a torn polytape?
A polytape must never be knotted! When knotting, the internal metal wires break and the flow of electricity is interrupted. Always use special metal tape connectors for repairs. These connect the ends cleanly and transmit the current without loss.

What tape width do I need?
For the outer fencing of large animals, 40 mm wide tape is usually used. For subdividing pastures (strip grazing) or for smaller animals, a 20 mm or 10 mm wide tape is often sufficient.

Which insulators match the polytape?
You absolutely need special tape insulators. These either clamp the tape firmly or let it slide through cleanly without it twisting. Normal ring insulators are not suitable for wide tape, as the material crumples inside them and breaks.

Durable Polytape for Secure Pasture Fences

Many animal species need a visual boundary that they recognize immediately. With a high-quality polytape, you protect your animals from breakouts and simultaneously reduce the risk of injury. When buying, make sure to pay attention to the electrical resistance (Ohm/m): For long fences, you need a tape with very good conductivity and thick copper conductors so that the current is sufficient to the very end. Always tension your tape with the appropriate tape insulators and only use tape connectors made of stainless steel or galvanized metal to make your fence durable and low-maintenance.
