They only leave the warming plate to eat and drink. Incorrect temperature Setting: If the chicks are restless under the warming plate, clump together, peep and do not come out from under it, the temperature is set too low. The chicks are too cold. Increase the temperature using the dial on the plate. If the temperature is set too high, the chicks will only stay at the edge of the hot plate or even outside. Reduce the temperature using the control knob on the plate so that the animals do not get too hot. Note: The temperature can also be controlled indirectly using the legs. If the temperature is too low, set the plate lower, if too high, set it higher. If your chicks are of different sizes and have different heating requirements, you can set the plate at an angle.
