Full shock strength even with heavy vegetation: AKO Duo Power Xi 8000 electric fence energiser
The AKO Duo Power Xi 8000 is an electric fence energiser for 230 V mains power and 12 V battery with 11,7 joules of stored energy. It safely contains sheep, bulls and horses and keeps wolves and wild boar away from your pasture. You can use it at the stable just as well as on far-off paddocks.
On mains the energiser runs without battery changes, on the pasture a 12 V battery powers it, with solar support if you wish. With the High/Low switch you choose between full and reduced power. The multi-colour LED bar display shows you the fence voltage from a distance, and a separate LED warns of a low battery. The deep discharge protection protects your 12 V battery.

Questions & answers:
Can I simply connect my car battery?
Better not permanently. A car battery is built for short, strong starting currents and copes poorly with deep discharging on an electric fence. Use a deep-cycle 12 V battery with around 100 Ah that you recharge regularly.
How many volts do I need on the fence against wolves?
At least 4.000 V should be present at every point of the fence, including the furthest point. Under load the Xi 8000 still delivers 8.700 V and so has plenty of reserve for long nets and polywire. Measure the voltage regularly with a fence tester, especially when grass grows back.
Why isn't one earth rod enough for this energiser?
The stronger the pulse, the more earthing the energiser needs, otherwise the energy fizzles out and the shock on the fence becomes weak. Drive 3 earth rods of 2 m deep into moist ground and connect them to each other. In dry or sandy ground, additional or longer rods help.
