Stable Flooring: Sure-Footed Surfaces for Stable, Aisle and Paddock

Good stable flooring protects your horse's joints and hooves and keeps the stable dry. Find mats, paddock grids and bedding for every area around your horse.

Stable Flooring: The Right Surface for Every Area

Well-planned stable flooring for horses makes everyday life easier. Your horse stands soft and sure-footed, its joints are spared and you need less bedding. Stable, aisle, wash bay or paddock: every area puts different demands on the floor covering in your horse stable. Here you will find rubber and PVC stable floor tiles and mats, paddock grids and bedding, also for calves, poultry and small animals.

Which Floor Goes Where?

In the stable and lying area, cushioning and warmth matter most. Thicker rubber mats absorb every step, insulate against cold from the ground and encourage your horse to lie down. In the aisle and under swinging doors, thinner mats with good grip are enough, and they can take the yard loader too. In the wash bay, mats with drainage stop puddles from forming. For stable walls there are wall mats that protect against kicks. With the Area of use filter you can see at a glance which mat is meant for the stable, aisle, wash bay, paddock or trailer.

Paddock, Turnout and Bedding

Outdoors, mud is the biggest issue. Paddock mats made from rubber or PVC with a perforated structure drain away rainwater and keep field gateways and tracks passable. Paddock grids and panels made from plastic stabilise the ground over large areas and are filled with sand, grit or wood chips. Every stable floor then needs the right bedding: wood shavings, spelt husks or forest floor bedding absorb moisture, while stable drying powders improve the air in the stable.

Frequently asked questions

Which stable flooring is best for horses?
Rubber mats have proven themselves in the stable because they are elastic, non-slip and durable. It is important that they lie without gaps so that neither bedding nor urine gets underneath. If you want plenty of lying comfort, choose a thicker mat with a cushioned structure.

What flooring works best for a wash bay?
In a wash bay, water needs to drain quickly and the floor has to stay grippy when wet. Rubber mats with ring holes or studs channel the water towards the drain. Smooth concrete on its own quickly becomes slippery when wet.

How much fall should the floor of a horse stable have?
A slight fall of around 1 to 2 per cent is enough for urine to run towards the drain. It should not be steeper, otherwise your horse stands at an angle all the time. The mats simply follow the slope of the base underneath.

Stable Flooring for Horses, Calves and Small Animals

A healthy stable starts with the floor. For the stable, aisle and wash bay you will find suitable Stable Mats in rubber or PVC that protect joints and save bedding. Outdoors, Paddock Mats with a perforated structure keep field gateways and turnout free from mud. For larger areas, Paddock Grids are a good choice, which you simply fill with sand or grit. And to keep stables, hen houses and small animal enclosures dry, there is absorbent Litter made from wood shavings, spelt husks and straw. This way you will find the right surface for every area around your horse and farm.
