Sheep Fence: Safely Enclosed, Even When the Wolf Comes

A sheep finds every weak spot in a fence, and it usually finds it at night. So the fence has a lot to say about how calm your grazing season turns out. We split the range into three routes: the electric sheep netting for flexible areas, the slot together hurdle for fixed pens and the complete set when fence and power should arrive together.

Height, spikes and the wolf

Netting comes in heights of 90, 105, 108, 122, 145 and 170 centimetres. For everyday flock work 90 to 108 centimetres is enough. Against the wolf it should be at least 120 centimetres, better 145. Just as important as the height is that no gap is left at the bottom and that the net stands properly tensioned, because a sagging net invites animals through and loses voltage into the grass as well. The double spike stands far more firmly in soft ground than the single spike, while the single spike is lighter and quicker to set. And whichever net you pick, it has to be live, otherwise it is only a visual boundary.

Fixed pens and a quick start with a set

Where you are not moving stock on but sorting, treating and catching them, sheep hurdles are the better choice. The panels slot into one another without tools and come in lengths of 1.37, 1.83 and 2.75 metres, with a gate or a lamb creep if you want one, plus a roof cover and a field shelter. If you are starting from scratch or have to secure an area at short notice, reach for the complete set. It holds netting, energiser, earthing and connecting leads matched to each other, as 12 volt, 230 volt or solar. For emergencies there is also a wolf kit with 500 metres of netting and 1000 metres of polywire.
