The sodium bicarbonate buffer substance it contains counteracts acidosis, which often leaves calves weak and lethargic. This helps stabilise fluid balance during transport stress and heat. The bolus can be given stress-free and safely, even without an applicator. Simply place it lengthwise on the base of the tongue by hand – the calf swallows it without difficulty. As a complementary feed, the bolus delivers the effective buffer substance exactly where it's needed.
