Aluminium Foil Tape for Heating Cable – frost protection all winter

This aluminium foil tape reflects heat onto the water pipe, helping your heating cable transfer its warmth efficiently along the entire pipe. It's essential on plastic pipes and plastic guttering, since plastic is a poor conductor of heat on its own.

For a 3.5 m long 3/4" pipe you'll need around 25 m of tape. Wrap the plastic water pipe completely with the aluminium tape before fitting the heating cable – this spreads the heat evenly along the full length of the pipe and reliably prevents frost damage. The aluminium-coated foil with strong acrylic adhesive unrolls easily by hand and can be cut to size.

How much tape do I need for my pipe?
For a 3.5 m long 3/4" pipe you'll need approx. 25 m of aluminium tape – roughly 7 m of tape per metre of pipe.

Do I need the tape on metal pipes too?
Metal pipes conduct heat well on their own, so the tape is optional there and mainly used to fix the heating cable in place.

Why is the tape so important on plastic pipes?
Plastic is a poor heat conductor – without the aluminium tape, the heating cable cannot transfer enough warmth to the pipe, so frost protection won't work reliably.
