Strong containment on long fences: Agrarzone A 5000 12V electric fence energiser
The Agrarzone A 5000 is a 12V electric fence energiser for battery operation and can therefore be used anywhere there is no mains connection on the pasture. It is made for long, mobile electric fences with vegetation and reliably contains cattle, horses, sheep and goats. You can also use it for wild boar defence.
Using the switch you choose between two power levels. On level II the energiser delivers the full pulse energy of 5 joules to the fence, on level I half of it at half the power consumption. The joules decide how strong the shock is. That is why the A 5000 still gets enough to the fence when grass and twigs on the polywire leak current. The voltage alone says little about it.

How long does a 12 V battery last on the A 5000?
That depends on capacity and power level. At full current draw a 100 Ah battery runs a good 9 days on level II and around 19 days on level I, a 60 Ah battery just under 6 and a good 11 days respectively. Lots of vegetation on the fence increases consumption, so it is better to recharge a little earlier.
Can I use a car battery?
In the short term that works, but in the long run a deep-cycle 12 V battery is the better choice. A car battery copes poorly with being deeply discharged over many days and quickly loses capacity as a result. The more Ah your battery has, the less often you need to recharge.
How do I earth the energiser correctly?
For the A 5000 you need three earth rods with a length of 1 m each, they are not included. Drive them into moist ground, away from buildings, at least 3 m apart, and connect them to each other. In dry ground you set additional rods so that the shock on the fence stays strong.
