Leimüller Malting Barley - thick grains and high starch content
Malting barley is a valuable feed, especially for chickens and birds. It is an excellent supplier of energy and is also very easy to digest.
Every good feed mixture for chickens and pigeons should contain a proportion of malting barley. Barley as an animal feed has many advantages: Barley is an energy-rich, easily digestible dietary feed for many bird species. Its characteristic feature is the high proportion of carbohydrates with a low fat content. Compared to feed barley, malting barley has a lower protein content.
Pigeon breeders like to use malting barley as a resting feed in winter. For parrots, this feed is very important in old age because of the low protein content. The grain is also very suitable as a supplementary feed for chickens and chicks.
If you want to offer the animals the malting barley as sprouted food, it is sufficient to put the barley in lukewarm water overnight. Soaking or germinating the barley causes the non-starchy carbohydrates to be broken down by the barley's own enzymes. This results in a significant improvement in the quality of the malting barley as feed and it is more readily accepted by the animals.

Barley grain is often disliked by birds because of its pointed shape of its hardness. In this case, the grain can be offered ground or added to other feed mixtures. Another way to make feed barley palatable to the birds is to make it germinate. It is sufficient to soak the barley overnight in lukewarm water and then let it rest for another day at room temperature, well rinsed.
