Japanese millet (chicken millet) are a digestible, popular food for budgies, cockatiels, canaries, exotics, parrots, wild birds and rodents. They have a relatively high carbohydrate content (approx. 60 %) and the protein content is also comparatively high (approx. 11 %). The very small and angular shape of the grains looks similar to buckwheat, but is much smaller than it.

Japanese millet are very soft, are particularly easy to dehull and are therefore very popular with many birds. They are ideal for exotic birds, as they correspond to their diet in their natural habitat. Processed as cooked or pregelatinised food, millet is a healthy food for small to medium-sized ornamental birds and wild birds. Japanese millet is also excellent for feeding rodents, e.g. mice and hamsters.

Feeding advice:

Japanese millet are a wonderful addition to regular bird food and can be used to make wholesome, healthy feed mixes, cooked food or sprouted food (soaking time 12 hours).

A budgie food should contain a proportion of approx. 5 - 15 %. Please note that for smaller or larger birds the amount should be adjusted accordingly.

12% crude protein, 4.4% crude oils and fats, 7.5% crude fibre, 3% crude ash

Storage:

Store the feedstuff hygienically, dry, dark and cool. Protect from direct sunlight.
