Near the farm you plug it into the socket, on distant pastures without a mains connection it runs on a 12 V battery. This lets you contain horses, cattle, sheep and goats with one energiser, even on large areas.The energiser stores 4,5 joules for every pulse, and 3 joules of that reach the fence as a shock. This shock strength decides whether the fence still works when grass grows into the wire, the voltage alone says little about it. Under load there are still 6.300 V on the fence. At full power (300 mA) that lasts roughly one week, at low load (77 mA) around four weeks. Vegetation on the fence increases consumption, so recharge the battery in good time.What does continuous mains operation cost?The energiser itself only needs about 1 to 3,6 watts depending on load. Around the clock that comes to around 3 to 11 euros a year (at 35 cents per kWh), plus a small loss in the power supply. On mains you also do not have to worry about recharging a battery.Can I run the DUO 3000 on solar power?Yes, in 12 V mode you can add a solar panel. A suitable choice is a 25 W panel with integrated charge controller, which you connect directly to the battery. For solar operation the battery should have at least around 70 Ah so that the energiser can bridge dull days.
