BUSSE Snaffle Bit KAUGAN 16 mm, Double-Jointed – calm contact for your horse

The BUSSE Snaffle Bit KAUGAN 16 mm is a double-jointed bit with an elliptical centre link, designed to sit calmly in the horse's mouth. It suits riders who want clear, gentle rein communication and value good bit acceptance.

The KAUGAN mouthpiece is a nickel-free copper alloy that encourages salivation and improves bit acceptance, making it a practical choice for sensitive horses. All connecting links are matched to the bit size and thickness, so the bit sits evenly and distributes rein pressure gently. FAQ:

How do I measure the correct bit width for my horse?
Measure from ring to ring while the bit is fitted. Leave a little space on each side so the lips aren't pinched.

How is the snaffle fitted correctly?
The hollow side of the bit faces the throat, the other side faces the mouth opening. Correctly fitted, 2–3 small wrinkles form at the corners of the mouth.

Which horses suit a double-jointed snaffle?
It sits calmer than a single-jointed bit and spreads pressure more evenly – ideal for horses seeking soft, consistent contact.

Warning/safety information

Warning/safety instructions for bits

A bit should have the correct width for the horse's mouth, which is measured on the horse in advance. The BUSSE bit width gauge is suitable for this.

The choice of the right type of bit is individual and depends on many factors - such as the horse's level of training, its mouth shape and sensitivity, and the rider's hand. Therefore, it makes sense to try out dentures.

When strapping in the bit, make sure that it is strapped in correctly: the BUSSE logo is on the left side of the horse's head, with the hollow side of the bit pointing towards the throat and the other side towards the mouth outlet . (If the bit is correctly positioned in front of you, you can read the size label on the right shank the right way up - it is not upside down.)

It is important that the bit fits correctly into the bit straps of the bridle or curb is buckled. When buckled correctly using the bit straps, approx. 2-3 small wrinkles will form at the corners of the mouth.

The bit should be checked regularly for signs of wear, such as sharp edges, and replaced if necessary. Please only use the bit if it is in an appropriate condition that does not harm the horse's well-being.
