Agrarzone MineralGrit Plus is a natural mineral source for poultry: for break-resistant egg shells and to support digestion. You offer the grit in the feed trough or in the litter, free choice at all times, the birds help themselves.

Both jobs sit in one mixture. Carbonated shell lime (40 %) and calcium carbonate (25 %) are soluble, they supply the calcium for the egg shell, 23,0 per cent is stated. Quartz (20 %) and red stones (15 %) are insoluble, they stay in the gizzard and grind the feed there.

Chickens have no teeth, they swallow the grain whole. The feed is only ground down in the gizzard, and for that it needs hard little stones. Declared as a flavouring is terpene-free star anise oil, the grit is made in Germany.

Feeding recommendation:

Offer regularly in small quantities in the feed trough or also in the litter, free choice at all times. Adjust the quantity to demand so that as far as possible everything has been taken up by the next day.

With grit it is not about a dose per bird but about presentation, the birds help themselves. Offer it in a separate shallow vessel next to the feeding place, dry and under cover and not below the perches, then it stays clean and does not cake together.

Storage:

Store the grit hygienically, cool and dry, then it keeps for 48 months from production. The manufacturer accepts no liability in the case of improper storage.

Questions and answers:

Oyster shell grit, lime grit, stomach grit: what is the difference, and which of them do I need?
Look at the material rather than the name: soluble grit such as shell lime and calcium carbonate is broken down in the stomach and supplies calcium, insoluble grit such as quartz and red stone stays in the gizzard and grinds the feed. MineralGrit Plus contains both, so you do not need two kinds.

My chickens are out on the range all day. Do I need grit at all?
Out on the range chickens do pick up stones themselves, provided the ground offers any. On grass, soft litter, sand or a paved surface they find little that fits, and in snow and frost they cannot get at it at all. A vessel standing out costs little, and the birds decide for themselves.

From what age can chicks and pullets have it?
There is no age statement on the pack, so we stay careful. The mixture contains 23 per cent calcium, the building block of the egg shell, which is needed only once the birds come into lay. For rearing, use a fine insoluble stomach grit without the high lime content instead.
