BUSSE Pelham Stainless Steel Bit, 14 mm, Soft-Control, Double-Jointed – precise control with a gentle base action
The BUSSE Pelham Stainless Steel Bit, 14 mm, Soft-Control, double-jointed is a correction and schooling bit designed for horses and ponies that benefit from adjustable rein aids. It turns into a bar and increases pressure when your horse leans against the reins – as soon as the aids are accepted, the bit softens again on the tongue and bars. This gives you control and gentleness in one piece of tack.
Built solidly for a quiet position in the mouth, all connecting links are matched to the exact bit size and thickness. The short lower shanks (50 mm) provide fast pressure application and release – essential for quick reactions on course. Depending on how you buckle it, you get three levels of action: pure action on tongue and bars, medium leverage on tongue, bars and poll, or targeted reinforcement with full leverage. This lets you flexibly adapt the bit to your horse's training level and the riding situation.

FAQ:
How do I choose the right buckling method?
For gentle action on tongue and bars, buckle the cheekpiece into the small top ring and the reins into the large ring. For more control over the poll, tongue and bars, use the Pelham strap in the lower ring or a second pair of reins for full leverage.
Which horses is this bit suitable for?
Thanks to its compact mouthpiece width, it's especially designed for small-sized ponies and small horses that benefit from fine but effective aid reinforcement.
Is the curb chain included?
Yes, the curb chain is part of the delivery. Pelham straps and curb chain covers are available separately.
Warning/safety instructions for bits
A bit should have the correct width for the horse's mouth, which is measured on the horse in advance. The BUSSE bit width gauge is suitable for this.
The choice of the right type of bit is individual and depends on many factors - such as the horse's level of training, its mouth shape and sensitivity, and the rider's hand. Therefore, it makes sense to try out dentures.
When strapping in the bit, make sure that it is strapped in correctly: the BUSSE logo is on the left side of the horse's head, with the hollow side of the bit pointing towards the throat and the other side towards the mouth outlet . (If the bit is correctly positioned in front of you, you can read the size label on the right shank the right way up - it is not upside down.)
It is important that the bit fits correctly into the bit straps of the bridle or curb is buckled. When buckled correctly using the bit straps, approx. 2-3 small wrinkles will form at the corners of the mouth.
The bit should be checked regularly for signs of wear, such as sharp edges, and replaced if necessary. Please only use the bit if it is in an appropriate condition that does not harm the horse's well-being.
