Attachment Combs: The Remaining Length Under Control

An attachment comb sits in front of the clipper head and lifts the blade off the skin by a fixed amount. That lets you set the remaining hair length without changing the clipper head itself. It is handy when you want to clip a horse’s saddle patch and legs to different lengths, or when a dog needs a soft transition. The combs here are made throughout from stainless steel.

Sets With Several Cutting Lengths

Single combs make sense if you run exactly one length. In practice sets usually pay off, because you can then work from short to long without ordering more. Aesculap offers combs for the Akkurata with 3 to 25 mm cutting length for that. From Wahl there is an eight-piece set for Snap-On clipper heads as well as sets for the Moser Max 45 and Max 50. That way you work forward in stages: take the bulk off with the longer step first, then go over it with the shorter one. It is calmer for the animal and far more forgiving than going straight to the shortest step.

Matching the Comb to the Head

A comb does not fit every head. It slides onto a particular clipper head range and has to sit there without play, otherwise it shifts in the middle of a stroke. Aesculap assigns its SnapOn sets to the GT317, GT326, GT330 and GT333 heads, and the Favorita sets to the GH700, GT736, GT746 and GT710 types. Besides the Snap-On sets, Wahl has its own versions for the Rex, 1400, Arco and Adelar, and Heiniger a set for the Saphir and Opal. So note the number of your clipper head, not just the machine name, and you will find the right comb straight away.
