It is used to thin out and shape manes that are too thick or too long by selectively pulling out individual long hairs, so they don't get in the way when riding or are easier to plait.

Take a small, overly long strand in your hand. Push the shorter hairs back up towards the crest with the comb. Wrap the remaining longer hairs tightly around the comb and pull them out with a short, sharp tug downwards. Work your way through the mane piece by piece.
Can I comb the mane every day?
Yes, you can easily go through your horse's mane daily with a comb to remove straw and dirt. With burrs or tight knots, make sure to hold the hair at the roots so you don't accidentally pull it out.
