Women's Competition Clothing: Elegant Look and Highest Functionality
Women's competition clothing (show apparel) is subject to traditional rules but must simultaneously enable riders to achieve top sporting performances. Dress codes (e.g., FEI rules) usually dictate white or light-colored breeches, a show shirt with a white stand-up collar, and a dark show jacket. Modern competition clothing combines this classic elegance with innovative high-tech materials.
Breathability Under the Show Jacket
Especially on warm competition days, body climate is a challenge, as the jacket must be worn during the test. Show shirts are therefore made of extremely light, quick-drying microfibers that immediately wick sweat away from the body. Mesh inserts on the arms and back provide additional ventilation. Modern show jackets are also unlined or equipped with a breathable mesh lining, and thanks to a high elastane content, they smoothly follow every movement over a jump or in extended trot.
White Breeches: Dirt-Repellent and Opaque
White show breeches place special demands on the material. They must be absolutely opaque and ideally have a dirt- and water-repellent coating so that minor stains from warming up do not immediately soak into the fabric. Just like training breeches, a silicone grip as a full seat or knee patch provides the necessary hold in the saddle.

Can show jackets be machine washed?
Yes, unlike the wool jackets commonly used in the past, which had to be dry-cleaned, modern show jackets made of softshell or synthetic blends can usually be machine washed at 30 °C (86 °F). They dry quickly on a hanger and are completely crease-resistant.
What is special about a show shirt?
A show shirt is characterized by its white stand-up collar. When the show jacket is closed, only this white collar is visible, which complies with traditional dress codes. The rest of the shirt can be colored as long as the jacket is worn.
How do I keep my white breeches clean at the show?
Many riders put baggy sweatpants (over-trousers) over their white breeches until shortly before mounting to protect them from dust and horse saliva. A dirt-repellent coating on the breeches also helps to easily wipe off stains.
