Corner Insulators: Where the Fence Pulls Hardest

Corner insulators sit at the points where the conductor changes direction or ends. There, the entire tension of the fence acts on a single point. A normal insulator would break or wear through the conductor. Corner and strain insulators are therefore built to be especially strong, often glass fibre reinforced, and spread the pull evenly onto the post so that the fence stays taut.

For Tape, Rope and Polywire

For electric fence tape there are tape corner insulators such as the Cavallo for tape up to 40 mm, with a wood thread or metric thread. For extra wide tape from 40 to 60 mm there are models with an additional bracket. Rope is guided over a professional corner insulator for rope or a corner roller on a threaded shank, which turns the rope in a gentle curve. Glass fibre reinforced strain insulators suit polywire, rope and wire at the end of the fence. Models with a wood thread screw straight into the post, while metric versions fit pre drilled metal posts.

For T-Posts Too

If you build with T-posts, you will find dedicated corner insulators and top insulators for tape that fit the profile directly. A plastic tape tensioner helps you retension the tape at the corner. So you have the right solution for every corner and every fence end, whatever your posts are made of. When choosing, check the width of your tape and the diameter of your rope, so that the conductor sits fully in the turn. If you run several strands above each other, each strand gets its own corner insulator.

Yes, at every change of direction and at every fence end. That is where the pull is greatest, and only a corner insulator can take this load over time.

How strong does a corner post need to be?
Corner posts should be considerably stronger than the other posts and set deep in the ground. On long, tightly tensioned fences a brace helps to stop the post tipping over.

Can I use a corner insulator in the middle of the fence?
Yes, as a line insulator it divides long fences into sections. That lets you retension individual sections without loosening the whole fence.
