Cream Separators: divide cream and skimmed milk reliably

If you want to churn butter or set the fat content, you need cream. The Milky separators divide it cleanly from the skimmed milk.

Cream Separators: take the cream off instead of skimming it

Standing milk gives up its cream slowly and never completely. A cream separator does the same job in minutes: it spins the milk, the heavier skimmed milk travels outwards, the lighter cream inwards, and the two run out separately. We carry the FJ series from Milky, from the compact unit to the floor-standing model.

What the litres-per-hour figure means

The number after the model tells you how much milk the separator puts through in an hour. The FJ 90 PP manages 90 litres per hour and suits a small household quantity, the FJ 130 sits a step above it, and the FJ 350 EAR at 350 litres per hour is a floor-standing model for farms separating larger volumes daily. At the top of the range stands the FJ 600 EAR. Every machine runs on 230 volts and plugs into any socket. Work from your daily volume and leave yourself a little headroom.

Build, material and cleaning

The models differ in their housing. Alongside the plastic version there are machines with a stainless steel housing, which wipe down more easily and stand up better to continuous use. The Longlife designation marks a drive built for longer unbroken running times. Milk-carrying parts such as the bowl, the discs and the trays come off for cleaning. It is best to separate promptly after milking, while the milk is still at body heat, because cold milk separates less well and yields less cream. Rinse the parts cold first so no protein dries on.

Frequently asked questions

How warm should the milk be?
Freshly milked is ideal, or warmed to roughly 35 to 40 degrees. Cold milk can be separated, but the result is distinctly poorer.

Which size fits my farm?
Divide your daily volume by the time you want to spend. For one or two cows 90 litres per hour is plenty, and more animals call for more.

Do I have to clean after every run?
Yes, milk residues dry on quickly. Take the bowl and discs apart, rinse cold, wash hot and leave everything to dry in the open.

Cream separators from Milky

A cream separator divides cream and skimmed milk by centrifugal force instead of leaving you to wait for the slow rise in the neck of a churn. That gives you cleanly separated cream for butter and skimmed milk for curd cheese, calf feeding or drinking, all in a short space of time. The litres-per-hour figure describes the throughput: the FJ 90 PP handles 90 litres an hour, the FJ 130 sits above it, the floor-standing FJ 350 EAR manages 350 litres and the FJ 600 EAR covers larger volumes again. Besides the plastic housing there are stainless steel versions, and the Longlife models are built for longer unbroken running. All of them work on 230 volts. Separate as soon after milking as you can, while the milk is still warm, and take the bowl and discs apart afterwards for cleaning.
