Hoof Care Products: Sprays, Pastes and Glues for the Foot

Tinctures, sprays, pastes, gels and hoof glue. This is how you look after the foot after trimming and keep the horn firm and dry.

Hoof Care Products: Treatment Straight After the Trim

Once you have trimmed, the aftercare decides whether the hoof heals quietly. Hoof care products dry out damp areas, harden the horn and lay a protective film over the worked surface. From the spray for quick use in the shed through to the hoof glue for fitting a block, you will find the right preparations here for cattle, sheep and goats.

Sprays, tinctures and pastes

For everyday treatment you reach for sprays you can apply one handed. Among them are the green hoof care spray, Stockholm hoof care spray, the Anthrolan-N hoof and claw spray, Podoseptan hoof spray, blue spray and Technovit-2-Protect. Where you want to work more precisely, the ClauFit hoof care tincture, Podoseptan hoof paste, TarPaste beechwood tar and the Technobase SaliVera hoof gel do the job. For a footbath across the whole herd there is ClawPlus concentrate in a 5 kg container.

Hoof glue for block and dressing

If a poorly hoof has to be relieved, you need a glue that sets quickly and holds. Technovit 6091 and Technovit 2-Bond have been in use for many years, as have Technobase 2CB and the 2CB SuperFast version for especially short curing times. What matters is a clean, dry and grease free hoof, so that the bond to the block really carries.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use a hoof care spray?
Straight after trimming, and any time the hoof looks damp, soft or irritated. Spray onto the clean hoof and let the product dry on. If there is an acute problem, agree the treatment with your vet first.

What does a footbath achieve?
A footbath reaches a lot of animals in a short time and hardens the horn right across the herd. With ClawPlus concentrate you mix the solution in the hoof bath. The walk through works best straight after milking.

How long before hoof glue takes weight?
That depends on the product. Fast systems such as 2CB SuperFast take weight after a few minutes, classic glues need a little longer. Keep the foot still until it has set, otherwise the block slips and the bond breaks before it has cured.
