The lashing strap is the most important tool in load securing. It presses the load onto the bed and stops it wandering when you brake or take a corner. Reading the load ratings correctly

Every strap carries two figures, for example 2000/4000 kg. The first applies to a straight pull, the second to a wrap where the strap runs twice around the load. Common versions are rated 750/1500, 2000/4000 and 2500/5000 kilograms. For heavy loads on a trailer, the 50 mm wide version at eight metres long is the standard, while narrower straps with a lower rating are enough for small items and light goods. Keep a couple of each length on board and you are ready for whatever turns up.

Ratchet, automatic or set

The classic ratchet delivers the highest pre-tension and is first choice for heavy loads. Automatic straps with a retractor go on faster and never hang around loose, which is ideal on trips where you reload several times and have little time. Padded models protect delicate surfaces. If you regularly carry different loads, a set of straps, bungees and accessories serves you well, because the right length is always to hand and nothing has to be improvised at the roadside. Padded corner sleeves are worth adding wherever the load has sharp edges.
