Polywire & Rope Gate Handles: Secure Gateways for Wire and Rope

A handle with eyelet or rope connector holds polywire and polyrope securely in the gateway. Here you will find gate handles with hook and spring.

Polywire & Rope Gate Handles: Made for Slim Conductors

Polywire & rope gate handles are the right handles for fences built with polywire or polyrope. The conductor is attached to an eyelet, a rope connector or a Litzclip, while the handle itself is insulated. You hook it into a gate handle insulator. These handles are used on cattle pastures, sheep fields and rope fenced horse paddocks alike, because they are light, robust and quick to fit.

Eyelet, Rope Connector or Litzclip

The simplest type is the handle with an eyelet, through which you thread the polywire and tie it off. For polyrope there are handles with a rope connector, where the rope is laid in a clamp and screwed tight. This gives more contact area and less wear. A Litzclip connector made of stainless steel clamps the conductor firmly without a knot and can be undone again later. There are also premium handles with a large grip that you can hold easily even in thick gloves.

Fitting in a Polywire or Rope Fence

On the fixed side of the gateway, connect the polywire or polyrope to the fence via an insulator and a connector. On the gate side, attach the conductor to the handle and hook it into a gate handle insulator. Tension the conductor so the spring is slightly stretched. Joints that carry current should be firm, because a loose knot is a typical cause of sparking and voltage loss along the fence.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a rope gate handle for polywire as well?
Yes, most rope connectors also clamp thinner polywire. Just make sure the conductor sits firmly and does not slip through the clamp.

How do I tie polywire to a gate handle properly?
Thread the polywire through the eyelet, wrap it round itself several times and finish with a firm knot. A connector or Litzclip conducts better, because individual wires can break inside a knot.

How many gate handles do I need for one gateway?
As many as your fence has rows of conductor. For a three row rope fence for horses that means three handles, and for sheep with many strands of polywire correspondingly more.

Gate Handles for Polywire and Polyrope

Polywire and polyrope are the conductors you see strung on many cattle pastures, sheep fields and horse paddocks. At the gateway they need a handle that holds them securely and passes on the current without losses. Here you will find suitable gate handles with eyelet, hook or rope connector, models with a stainless steel Litzclip and premium versions with a large grip in red, blue or green. The built in spring keeps the conductor taut and absorbs knocks when a cow or horse pushes against it. For lasting contact, it is best to clamp polyrope in a rope connector rather than just knotting it. Each row of conductor gets its own handle in the gateway. That way you open your fence safely with one hand and close it again just as quickly after you.
