Batteries age, and there is no preventing it. After a few years and many charge cycles the run time collapses, and the machine stops in the middle of a clip. Reading Voltage and Capacity

Two figures appear on every battery. The voltage in volts has to match the machine exactly, and it determines the power: the Heiniger Opal runs at 7.2 V, the XPLORER at 10.8 V, an Agrarzone battery for the PowerCut and FarmClipper 2 supplies 14.4 V and the Aesculap Econom CL works at 21.6 V. The capacity in Ah or mAh says how long it lasts: 1.4 Ah on the Heiniger SAPHIR, 2.6 Ah on the XPLORER, and 3350 and 3500 mAh on the Econom CL versions. More capacity means more run time at the same voltage, usually along with a little more weight in the hand.
