Slot Insulators for Electric Fences
A slot insulator is characterized by its special design, which is open at the top or side. Unlike a closed ring insulator, the conductor material does not have to be laboriously threaded through meter by meter. You simply press the polywire or wire into the slot. A click mechanism or a narrow plastic catch then holds the material reliably in the insulator.
Time Savings During Fence Construction
Threading the conductor material is very time-consuming, especially on long stretches of fence. With slot insulators, you tension the material over the entire length and then just press it into the holders. If a piece of polywire needs to be replaced during fence maintenance, the material can be removed just as easily. This saves valuable working time and spares your nerves.
Which Conductor Material is Suitable?
These insulators are ideal for polywire, smooth steel wire, and narrow electric fence tapes (up to approx. 10 mm). The narrow gap blocks these materials optimally. For thick pasture ropes from 6 mm, however, they are often too tight; you should use special rope insulators for this.

Will the material fall out of the slot in strong winds?
No. The gap is designed so that the conductor material can be pushed in easily but cannot slip out on its own. The opening narrows inwards or is blocked by an overlapping plastic edge.
Are slot insulators stable enough for corners?
They are absolutely robust for normal straight lines. However, enormous leverage forces occur in fence corners. You should always use massive corner insulators here to prevent the plastic from tearing off.
How are these insulators attached?
Most models have a robust wood thread. With a matching screw-in attachment for the cordless drill, they can be fixed in the wooden post in seconds.
