Pasture Fly Trap: Bait Traps for Horse Pasture, Paddock & Garden

A pasture fly trap catches flies before they can bother your horses and cattle. Here you will find reusable traps together with the matching attractant.

Pasture Fly Trap: Catching Flies Outdoors

Out on the pasture, flies gather around the eyes, nostrils and wounds of the animals. Horses swish their tails constantly and cattle stand restlessly in a group. A pasture fly trap catches the flies with an attractant, without any insecticide. It is suitable for the horse pasture, the paddock, the run and also the garden when compost or livestock nearby attract flies.

How the Bait Trap Works

The trap consists of a container with water and an attractant that smells irresistible to flies. The flies crawl inside and cannot find their way out again. The cit FlyCage6 and the smaller FlyCage3 are reusable, and the mesh inserts can be replaced. The EcoBusters set contains trap and attractant so you can get started straight away. Refill packs are available as EcoBusters 6 x 40 g and for the FlyCage in 25 g and 750 g, so you are well supplied all season.

The Right Location Makes the Difference

To people, the attractant smells very strong. So hang the trap at a clear distance from the house, patio and seating areas. Keep some distance from the animals too, so the flies are lured away from them rather than towards them. A sunny spot at the edge of the pasture or on the fence is ideal, because warmth boosts the attraction. Put the traps up early in the year to catch the first generation before it multiplies.

Frequently asked questions

How far from the house and stable should I hang the fly trap?
Allow ten metres or more, because the smell is clearly noticeable in warm weather. Check the wind direction as well, so the scent does not drift towards the house or patio.

Does the pasture fly trap also catch horseflies?
No, horseflies do not respond to the scent but to warmth and dark shapes. There are dedicated horsefly traps for that, which work well alongside the fly trap.

When do I need to renew the attractant?
As soon as the trap is well filled or the catch drops noticeably. Empty the trap, rinse it with water and add fresh attractant, and it will catch reliably again.

Fly Traps for Pasture, Paddock and Garden

Out on the pasture, flies are a real burden for horses and cattle. A fly trap with attractant catches them where they hatch and gather, and does so without any insecticide. The scent in the water container draws the flies in through the opening, and they cannot get out again. Reusable traps can be used year after year, you simply add fresh attractant when needed. Because the smell is strong for people, the trap belongs at the edge of the pasture, on the fence or in a corner of the garden, ideally in the sun and well away from the house and seating areas. Put it up early in the year, ideally in spring, and the number of flies stays lower throughout the summer. Together with a horsefly trap, you give your animals all-round protection out in the field.
