The ear tag is the basis of official animal identification. It carries the number that stays with your animal for life and keeps its origin and its movements traceable. Tag and applicator have to match
Systems cannot be mixed freely. FlexoPlus and MultiFlex have their own pliers, and the PrimaFlex applicator from Allflex works with a blue insert. With a conversion kit you adapt an existing applicator to another tag system and do not need to buy a second tool. The tags come one sided or double sided as well as blank in yellow, for example as FlexoPlus D/D or F/F in sets of 25. Blank means you letter them yourself, for instance with the shed number for your own herd management.
Fitting cleanly and checking after
Work calmly and restrain the animal safely, then it goes quickly. The ear should be clean and dry, and so should the pin and the applicator. The tag belongs in the middle part of the ear between the cartilage ribs, not too close to the head and not out at the edge. One firm, complete squeeze locks the tag in place securely. Check the spot over the following days. Clean the pliers after use and look over the pin for burrs. Keep replacement tags to hand, because a lost tag has to be reordered, and store them cool, dry and dark.
